Pedestrian & Bicycle Safety Awareness
In West Virginia, there are not a lot of fatalities related to Pedestrians or Bicyclists like there is in other states. However, that does not mean the problem is non-existent.

There has been a recent decline in the number of pedestrians being killed by vehicles along our roadways these past two years. Unfortunately, at 19 fatalities, there is still work to be done. For bicyclists, there have only been 11 fatalities related with motor vehicles in West Virginia over the past 10 years.

As part of the Pedestrian and Bicycle Safety Programs our office visits local schools to hand out materials to elementary school aged youth. In this part of the program, a local police officer attends with us to also educate the youth on how to ride bicycles and cross at crosswalks safely.
